In Canada, the Prince Edward Island Workers' Compensation Board has just completed the first review of its medical cannabis policy, a year after its implementation. The commission that currently covers the reasonable costs of purchasing an e-cigarette is considering abandoning the coverage altogether.

Under the current policy, the use of this product is approved against nausea that accompanies chemotherapy, end-of-life care, spasm caused by a spinal injury or chronic pain.
The commission is currently covering the reasonable costs of buying an electronic cigarette, but it intends to forego this measure. Director of Workplace Services, Kate Marshall, no longer wants to cover the cost of vaping equipment due to a recent warning issued by Health Canada.
The commission wants to make sure its policy is not seen as promoting vaping as a way to get cannabis treatment, says Marshall. The commission is proposing the discontinuation of electronic cigarette coverage as an interim measure, she said.
If Health Canada or the scientific community changes their warnings, the commission will continue to review its policy, says Marshall.
