ECONOMY: A new tax on vaping products in 2024?

In recent days, information has been spreading everywhere. Indeed, as recently in Belgium, France could implement an additional tax on the sale of vaping products and in particular e-liquids according to several players in the sector. Worried about 2024?

2024, A BLACK YEAR FOR VAPERS?

Could the price of vaping products almost double in France in a short time? In any case, this is what worries the associations defending vaping and resellers who have the impression of having a sword of Damocles over their heads according to Telegram information. According to them, “ discussions and consultations are underway » to introduce a new tax on the sale of e-liquid in France.

The European Parliament could also give this possibility to all its member states but some have not waited for it. New taxation has already arrived, for example in Italy, Portugal and the Netherlands. More recently and closer to us, Belgium also took the plunge by announcing last November that it would tax “ e-liquids at fifteen cents per milliliter from January 1 », Reports RTBF. This gives an increase of €1,50 for a small 10ml vial, increasing its price to around €7.

On the other side of the border, there are already fears that vapers will come to France to stock up on an e-liquid which today costs here on average around €5 for 10ml with 20% VAT. But for how long ?

According to Sovape, France could follow the same path as Belgium “ in some months » when she has just voted to ban the puff. Concern is therefore in order during this festive period and before entering a year 2024 which could be one of all the dangers for an already weakened vaping sector.
