Is vaping the number 1 problem for our youth ? If we are convinced of the contrary, a new study comes to prove that smoking remains the most important scourge in high schools. A team of teacher-researchers observed for three years, until 2020, the behavior of students at the Honoré d'Urfé high school in Saint-Étienne in relation to smoking and vaping. One of the observations is that it is difficult to fight against the effect of curiosity around tobacco.
6 OUT OF 10 HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS TEST TOBACCO!
More than one in two high school students have already tried electronic cigarettes (54% among 15-18 year olds) and the rate of experimentation with cigarettes in general exceeds 60%, according to a study conducted in Saint-Étienne between 2018 and 2020 by Jean-Monnet University, the School of Mines, the Faculty of Medicine and the University Hospital, with students from the Honoré-d'Urfé high school.
To Mabrouk Nekaa, the director of the department of educational sciences at Jean-Monnet University young people always want to experiment with tobacco:
« We also see an increase in experimentation with vaping. So we are seeing this new use more and more, and if we are still talking about new uses which are disposable electronic cigarettes, "puffs", where there again we have no studies, but we are indeed seeing a small enthusiasm for these electronic cigarettes. Tobacco is stable, even progressing, but we know that for 18-75 year olds, tobacco has not fallen in recent years, despite the years before when it was falling. »
Proof that if the puff worries, smoking among young people does not drop, worse still, it progresses without any strong decision being taken.
