Vape Smuggling: Australian Border Force Intercepts $12,4 Million in Products
In a major operation, the Australian Border Force (ABF, is a federal law enforcement agency, part of the Department of Home Affairs, responsible for offshore and land border control, investigations, compliance, Detention Operations and Customs Services in Australia.) seized nearly 400 vapes with an estimated value of $000 million. This interception took place when customs agents discovered anomalies during the scanning of maritime containers.
A Seizure Spread Over Several Days
ABF agents found 37 disposable vapes hidden among declared goods as of Monday. In the following days, inspections revealed even more contraband. A second container, containing 800 pallets of boxes containing 18 disposable vapes, was discovered. Finally, on Thursday, a third container was opened, revealing an additional 174 vapes.
Strengthened Import Control Measures
This massive seizure highlights the ABF's ongoing efforts to combat vaping product smuggling. Agents used advanced scanning technologies to detect anomalies in shipments, leading to this significant discovery.
With a total of 389 vapes intercepted, the ABF continues to strengthen import control measures to prevent the illegal entry of these products into the Australian market.
