Despite disastrous smoking rates, India still does not appear to want to embrace e-cigarettes. After the states of Kerala, Punjab, Karnataka, Mizoram Jammu-Kashmir and Maharashtra, Rajasthan would also be on the verge to ban vaping. A study of the health department will soon indicate whether the electronic cigarette is harmful or not.
A FIGHT AGAINST E-CIGARETTE INSTEAD OF SMOKING!
According to our confreres of Times of India“Next Thursday, the health department will launch a new study to determine the potential“ harmfulness ”of e-cigarettes. This study should a priori focus on the presence of nicotine in electronic cigarettes.
Kalicharan Saraf, the health minister said that if the study shows a nuisance, instructions will be issued to ban it in the state of Rajasthan.
Social organizations and activists for their part welcomed the movement. " Rajasthan could be the next state to ban electronic cigarettes. So far, states including Kerala, Punjab, Karnataka, Mizoram Jammu-Kashmir and Maharashtra have made this decision. But in Rajasthan, e-cigarettes are sold in pharmacies and even on the internet." said Jayesh Joshi, secretary of Vaagdhara, an organization working for tobacco control in Rajasthan.
It is important to point out that the pressure has been strong for some time, health activists and state scholars continually demanding a ban on e-cigarettes in Rajasthan.
