In the United States, Tobacco Free Florida, which announces its desire to protect the population from smoking, also presents vaping among adolescents as "an epidemic". In this sense, the group is launching a new campaign today which aims to discourage young people from using e-cigarettes.
VAPOTAGE IS A PROBLEM THAT CONCERNS YOUTH!
In 2018, the figures announced that one in four Florida high school students had ever used an e-cigarette. This 58% increase among young people indeed contrasts with vaping rates among adults, which have remained relatively constant around 4%.
«So this is a problem that concerns young people", said Laura Corbin, head of the office of Tobacco Free Florida.
According to her, the e-cigarette makers are the same that previously sold tobacco to teens and they use the same methods to promote vaping.
«Juul, the most popular brand among young people offers a variety of flavorsCorbin said. " These models contain a very large dose of nicotine and exposure to nicotine can interfere with brain development in young people."
Starting Monday, as part of Florida's Tobacco Free Week, the state agency launches a new digital media campaign entitled "E-Epidemic". According to Laura Corbin, similar campaigns have helped reduce smoking rates among youth.
«Our message is simple: vaping is not safe for children, teens or young adultsCorbin said.
