A LIMIT ON THE PROMOTION OF THE E-CIGARETTE IN THE STATE OF NEW YORK
Yesterday, the Governor Cuomo of New York State signed a law to tackle the distribution of free electronic cigarettes to minors. This law puts an end to a loophole in a previous state law that banned the sale of electronic cigarettes to people under the age of 18, while still allowing their use as promotional items.
Linda Rosenthal (D-Manhattan) stated that the bill had been prepared in response to complaints received about people promoting and distributing electronic cigarettes at fairs and other public gatherings.
« We want to cut off access to e-cigarettes, whether they are distributed or purchased“, She declared.
This new law is the latest step taken by the state to reduce the use of electronic cigarettes, especially among minors. Last fall, Governor Cuomo had already promulgated a project of loi extending the provisions of the Clean Air Act From New York to electronic cigarettes, banning their use in most restaurants, bars and workplaces.
