CANADA: The Minister of Health accuses vaping of posing a serious health risk

The Canadian anti-vaping policy seems to have been gaining momentum for several months. A few days ago, Jean-Yves Duclos, Minister of Health has accused vaping of posing a serious health risk. For the authorities, smoking and vaping would therefore have the same consequences on health.

THE GOVERNMENT “BETTER PLACED” TO EVALUATE VAPING!

Today the honorable Carolyn Bennett, Minister of Mental Health and Addictions and Associate Minister of Health, announced the launch of a 45-day public comment period beginning June 18 to guide the development of draft regulations on the production of reports regarding vaping products.

« As the vaping market continues to rapidly evolve and encourage Canadians, especially young people, to use vaping products, we are taking steps to better protect everyone in the country by further deepening our knowledge of effects of these products on their health. The proposed regulations will help us raise awareness of health harms while continuing research aimed at reducing the number of people affected by the harms associated with tobacco and vaping product use across the country. »

According to Jean-Yves Duclos, Minister of Health, things are clear: “ Tobacco and vaping can pose serious health risks to Canadians, especially young smokers. As the vaping market is changing rapidly, we are taking steps to better understand products and their ingredients. With new requirements for manufacturers to share information with Health Canada about their products, our government will be in a better position to assess the impact of vaping on the health and safety of Canadians. »
