Vaping is not smoking! In any case, this is what a majority of French people think. Interviewed by the Harris Interactive Institute for Fontem Ventures (Imperial Tabacco), they consider conventional tobacco to be more dangerous than vaping with an e-cigarette.
Steam, less troublesome than smoke
When 54% of French people say they are particularly disturbed by the proximity of a smoker, the vapor of an e-cigarette only disturbs 19% of respondents.
For 40% of French people, the use of electronic cigarettes presents no or limited risk. And if more than three quarters of respondents (76%) consider that tobacco is a real danger to health, only 24% share this opinion for e-cigarettes.
The French for a ban on e-cigarettes in public places
In the same vein, a majority of French people (84%) are aware of the consequences of passive smoking. Conversely, 6 in 10 consider that the risk is minimal if they are next to a smoker while vaping. French paradox, many respondents approve of the idea of a ban on electronic cigarettes in certain public places (92% in places welcoming children, 88% in public transport, 83% in collective workspaces ).
In addition to these assessments, this study reports that 13% of the population aged 18 to 60 vape, which represents 6,8 million adults.
