If for a long time Switzerland was not restrictive in terms of vaping legislation, things are changing. Lagging behind in its regulation of electronic cigarettes, the Grand Council of Vaud intends to tackle the regulation of the use of nicotine products and the advertising of these products from the start of the school year.
BAN ON PUFF, VAPING IN PUBLIC PLACES…
In Switzerland, the Canton of Vaud is behind in its vaping regulations. He is even the last French-speaking canton for not having put in place a legislative arsenal which makes it possible to prohibit the sale of puffs to minors, to prohibit vaping in public places and to regulate advertising for these tobacco substitutes.
As soon as the Grand Council returns, this Tuesday, October 31, things could change. The cantonal parliament has on its table a draft modification of three laws which aims at these limitation objectives. It's the Green Liberal MP Graziella Schaller who had launched the offensive in a motion, already in 2018. Its goal was to protect young people, “who have free access to a harmful product».
After passing through committee, the text sounder is now finally ready for examination by the plenum. The MP says she is satisfied today, even if she does not hide a little worry: “The Council of State has gone quite far in its proposals, in particular when it plans to subject to the law products which are not yet on the market. Like the puff we've seen happen lately.".
Graziella Schaller testifies that she often hears parents complain that their teenagers obtain them very easily and that they become dependent on these products: “We, the politicians, must be aware that the advertising and distribution of these products go through social networks and the influence of peers, and we do not measure the extent of this phenomenon. We need to take a closer look at this consumption of nicotine products by young people.»
To see what will happen to vaping in the coming weeks but it is good to note that the question of fees on vaping products has already been settled at the federal level, an increase in prices is also expected.
